AUGMENTED DREAMS - COMING SOON
Augmented Dreams is a world similar to our own, set 30 years in the future in 2044. It is a world of megacorporations pulling purse strings for puppet governments, high-tech battles being fought with drones and cyborgs, shining entertainment cities where people avoid their problems by delving into the virtual reality and drugs. The rich have become something other than human, genetic monstrosities altered by biotech and kept alive through nanotechnology. This is a world of conflict and strife, where even dreams and reality merge and nightmares can find you whether you're awake or not. The heroes of these stories are not the ones we read in fairy tales or see in most Science Fiction. The average suburban housewife straps on her SmartCamo jogging suit and heads out into the night, trying to avoid the drug gangs who come out to collect debts and exact revenge during this time...political refuges who've managed to survive devastation of their land, their culture, their village - deposited in another foreign land, unemployed and angry...a cybertech augmented MMA fighter competes in underground tournaments, collecting his winnings over the bloody mat where his enemies lay gasping for air amidst broken ribs...a drone pilot plans his tactical runs and scans Facial IDs of suspects within their online bounty database, but what if one day your face was on that list too...a security contractor sets down in a warzone, activating his automated defenses and assembling his long range electromagnetic rail gun, preparing for his first kill of the season...a skilled businessman negotiates contracts across the table from the world's most powerful and influential people, but he has the upper hand, having paid agents the night before to infiltrate each of their dreams through illegal technology and find their greatest most hidden desires and then he sets out the offer that they can't refuse...
Touching on the themes of this game in progress, I'll share a story. I've been working on Aug. Dreams so much lately, that I've been having very vivid dreams about running playtests of the game. During one lucid dream playtest, my real life roomate who happened to be in the dream, was playing a character and enunciated why he liked the game in reference to the mechanics for the Taunt skill:
Dream Nix - "It's easy to play, when they stop laughing at my jokes, I pull out the anti-material cannon."
